Description

2nd Classified Growth in 1855 The 2015 vintage was a magnificent wine year for the Bordeaux vineyard. The flowering of the vines was able to benefit from a beautiful sunny weather in June, and the summer that followed was hot and dry. The small rains that occurred in mid-August were welcome for a good start of the ripening process. The late season in September and October offered a very nice harvest in a superb sanitary state, with grapes of an excellent aromatic potential. Blend of the 2015 vintage: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc. The robe reveals a beautiful dark red color with subtle garnet tints. The nose opens with a sumptuous bouquet of black fruits and violets, followed by notes of gingerbread, pepper and licorice. The attack on the palate is precise and juicy, revealing fine and elegant tannins that coat a very dense body. It reveals intense flavors of red fruits and crème de cassis, and evolves with precision to a long, suave and racy finish. A very fine vintage for this iconic Saint-Julien cru. Food and wine pairing: Château Léoville Poyferré 2015 would be a perfect accompaniment to beef tenderloin with foie gras and porcini mushroom sauce, snacked veal sous la mère, a famous roast chicken, a rack of lamb confit, or even a shredded beef simmered with a creamy polenta. For a cheese pairing, enjoy it with Cantal, Edam, aged mimolette, morbier with truffles or Saint-Nectaire. For desserts, it will be particularly delicious with a Russe, a pear-chocolate Bavarois or Guillaume Mabilleau's Extra-noisette tart. Ageing potential and tasting: Château Léoville Poyferré 2015 can still benefit from its great aging potential, and will reach its peak between 2030 and 2035. However, it is ready to be tasted today. To do so, take care to place the bottle in the serving room at a temperature between 15 and 18°C the night before. Then open it and decant it ideally 5 to 6 hours before tasting. The bottles will be kept in the cellar protected from the light, lying down, with an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
