For this reason, OE bushes commonly use rubber as insulation material as it offers good insulation properties. This is all well and good for normal driving with a stock engine, however for enthusiastic driving, or a tuned engine making more power, the flex inherent in rubber as a bushing material can start to make itself felt.If you have ever had bushes changed, you'll also be aware that rubber can suffer from ageing and environmental exposure problems where the rubber dries out, loses its suppleness and perishes or cracks.The solution is to replace the rubber with a stiffer material, like Polyurethane and this is exactly what Cobb Tuning has done here.They started with a superior grade 6061 billet aluminium block and precision engineered a strong and durable lightweight corrosion-resistant mount. Then carefully selected the exact hardness of polyurethane to give the right blend of rigidity and comfort. Using Shore 85A Durometer (hardness measurement on a 0-100 scale, 100 being the hardest) polyurethane, means the bushes in Cobb Tuning's engine mounts ensure they are not only durable and resistant to the issues of rubber but are more than capable of dealing with the greater demands and NVH forces seen in performance-modified and tuned engine applications and still retain enough comfort for normal road use during acceleration or at idle.
